Dear Hope Church Family,
You may have heard by now that one of our longtime members, Lauren Kossler, died this past Wednesday. We are putting together arrangements for a service and will inform the congregation when they are finalized. In the meantime, please be in prayer for her husband, Bill, and their sons and extended family. Lauren impacted so many in our church and community through her wonderful gift of music education. She was a dear wife, mother, friend, church member, and instructor, and she will most certainly be missed. Thank you, Lord God, for Lauren’s life, and thank you for the hope of the resurrection in Jesus: “He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces …” (Isa. 25:8a).
Friends, it’s been a heavy season for many of us. We feel helpless and despairing, and maybe even anger and rage wells up. We wonder if God has abandoned his image bearers. And yet our God invites us to come to him with all of our thoughts and emotions. To treat him as the creator and sustainer of the universe, and the only one who can bring real, lasting hope and change in the midst of devastation.
I invite you to join us for worship this Sunday—not just because I’m a pastor and that’s what I’m supposed to do—but because we need our hearts and minds reoriented to the wonder of God’s grace for us in the person and work of Jesus. Maybe you’ve been away from church for over a year because of COVID and you’re even a little embarrassed to return. Let me just say, You are always welcome at Hope. You’ll find no one shaming you this week—only joy that you’re with us.
The Peace of Christ Be with You,
