Dear Hope Family,
We are honored to welcome the Rev. Austin Pfeiffer to the pulpit this Sunday. Austin serves as the Associate Pastor of Salem Presbyterian Church, our sister congregation. He also has been a great blessing to all the PCA churches in our region with his service as the Moderator the Piedmont Triad Presbytery. Both Ethan and I are thankful to work alongside Austin and call him our friend.
Austin will preach from Hebrews 2, and he shared some helpful thoughts to prepare us to hear from God’s Word on Sunday:
“This Summer Salem Pres has been studying the book of Hebrews. One thing we have focused on is an alertness to God’s presence. That the warning passages in Hebrews are not telling us to “shape-up” as Christians so much as to say “wake-up” to God’s presence amongst us because of Christ. The Gospel asks nothing of us but to believe. But believing is hard when we are lulled to sleep by finding our identity in job titles, our worth in status, our satisfaction in consumption. That we easily fall asleep and drift away from the reality that God’s presence is not just our reward in the future, but in the present. To wake-up is not to be a better person, but to confess our driftings that we might taste and see God’s goodness now.”
Please pray for Austin and the ministry of the Word – that we can, by grace, confess our driftings and experience God’s rescue afresh as we worship together.
Lastly, please continue to pray for the Director of Worship Search Team and the Pastor for Students and Families Search Team. Both teams have done significant, heavy lifting in order to get us to a decision point in both regards. We are anticipating some in-person visits in the weeks to come and, Lord willing, some definitive calls to come and serve on the Hope Church staff.
God’s provision is kind and always on time – and we earnestly seek his wisdom and grace for the potential final push in these crucial processes for our church.
Grace and peace,
