Dear Hope Family,
This Sunday we will welcome new members into the community of Hope Church for the third time this year. What an amazing blessing from the Lord! In a season of distance and disconnection, it is remarkable that our community continues to grow. Jesus really does remain faithful to his promise to build his church!
There is a vital connection between our membership vows and taking part in the Lord’s Supper. New members profess publicly that they are sinners in need of grace, they trust in Christ alone for their salvation, and they are committing themselves to the community of God’s people, the church. And people of all ages are able to make those vows – from elementary-age children all the way up through retirees! So, as we have had the opportunity to welcome new members, some of you have had questions about your children becoming members and taking communion. Those are great questions! Thankfully, our Director of Children’s Ministry, Sarah Beam, recently wrote a brief, very helpful article outlining this process and reflecting on what happens in communion. You can read the article below.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the pastors, elders, or Sarah if you believe that you or your child are ready to begin taking communion. Jesus himself rejoices when children come to him, and so we also rejoice. As Sarah said, the Lord’s Table is a meal for those who have been adopted as children of God – there’s always room to add another chair.
