Dear Hope Family,
We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Congregational Meeting on January 27th from 5:00-7:00pm. In addition to enjoying a meal together, it is a welcome opportunity for us to take stock of how God has been at work in our community as well as to set our course for the year ahead.
Part of the anticipation of what lies in front of us is voting upon the emerging leadership for our church. We have had three men from our church engage in the process to be ordained to the office of Deacon at Hope: Charles Ashton, Michael Mitchell, and Ben Zummallen. These men were nominated by you, the congregation. They have given themselves to months of theological and practical training, and they have been examined as to their character and capacity to fill this crucial role in the life of the church, and they come to you with the recommendation of the Session to serve in this office. The final step along the path is for us to approve them by a congregational vote at our meeting on Sunday evening. Once approved, we set aside time in one of our worship services to ordain and install them as Deacons. Then the real fun begins for everyone!
Please pray for these godly, gifted men and ask for God’s wisdom and blessing as we vote as a congregation.
One more plea before the Congregational Meeting – ideally we would have at least 12 active Deacons serving the needs of Hope. As it stands now, should all of the prospective Deacons be approved, we would have only 7 active Deacons in service. I urge you to pray for God to raise up more servant-leaders in our midst as Deacons. We will discuss in more detail how to nominate a person for the office of Deacon at the meeting, but for now, please join me in prayer that God would bless us with a full complement of Deacons so that our ministry of mercy and generosity can grow and bless our church and our city.
Grace and peace,
