Dear Hope Family,
Thank you for all of the prayers and well-wishes for my time away with Margaret Ann to celebrate 20 years of marriage. Your care and thoughtfulness certainly made getting away and transitioning back in smoother than I had anticipated. I especially want to commend and thank Ethan for his faithful ministry of the Word from the pulpit and his gracious shouldering the full load of ministry in my absence. What a gift to me and to us as a church!
We enjoyed a beautiful, reflective Ash Wednesday service this past Wednesday evening. It launched us into this season of examination, preparation, and renewal on the right note, and I hope that you sense the opportunity for intentional growth in grace as we make our way through Lent towards Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
In that regard I want to pass along two resources to focus our preparation and renewal. I have mentioned Justin Earley and his work with The Common Rule to you before, and he has published a book called The Common Rule which provides the full extent of his work to help us cultivate habits of purpose in an age of distraction. He also has released a condensed version for Lent. Sally Lloyd Jones, author of the The Jesus Storybook Bible, has also put together a plan to help us get the most out of this season. We read through some of it at the dinner table last night as a family, and it is wonderful. I hope that you all find just as helpful as I have. Both resources are attached below!
Looking forward to being with you all on Sunday!
Grace and peace,
