It is hard to believe that we are peering over the shoulder of the end of the school year and into the promise of and burden of summer, and it is equally hard to believe what we have endured, weathered, and even thrived in over the course of the past year: a major pastoral transition, an exacting, sobering, and painful betrayal through the fraud crisis from within our staff, and the accompanying need to stabilize, heal, and safeguard through better, more accountable structures. God has been kind to us, provided for us, and empowered us to continue to be His people in this place – for which we are deeply grateful and astounded.
Whether you have been in the middle of it all or content to live in your own ordinary rhythms one step removed, I invite you to pray for some encouraging and demanding avenues of ministry we are engaged in at the moment:
Officer Training with Deacon nominees: We have 7 prospective deacons that are on the cusp of training for the office of deacon, and each is trying to discern his own calling to serve Hope church in this capacity. Please pray this process as it gets traction over the summer and that God’s timing and call would be clear for each person involved.
Finance Team Formation: Ruling Elder Blair Whitworth has been laying the groundwork for a team of Hope members who will oversee, audit, and cast a vision for our day-to-day financial operations as well as larger financial goals such as retiring the debt upon our current property and pushing ahead other capital goals. Please pray for this team and their crucial work to continue helping us get healthy and viable processes for our stewardship.
Bringing Staff to Full Capacity: We are very close to filling the Sexton position, which will help insure that there is a staff member “on the ground” for light maintenance and upkeep of our facilities on a weekly basis. Our hope is that this person can free our Deacons up to be more devoted to their passion for mercy and congregational care instead of being consumed by the necessary but at times pesky duties of upkeep and maintenance. We have been enjoying and making great progress with the addition of Christine Lawrence as our Office Administrator over the past 2 months. She has added a capable, committed, and joyful presence to the office, and all the avenues of ministry are able to move forward with her support and gifts. Please pray for all of our staff and God’s continued provision for our church.
What an abiding encouragement it is that Jesus is the King and Head of the Church – that he is building his church, and the gates of hell will not prevail! Keep praying that we would be comforted and motivated by this bedrock truth!
Grace and peace,
