Dear Hope Family,
I trust that by now you have received the Pastoral Letter that the Session and I crafted to announce some exciting changes in the structure of our pastoral team at Hope. Very succinctly stated, the Session has unanimously approved for Ethan Smith, our current Pastor for Students and Families, to change his job focus and title to the Pastor for Congregational Life and Discipleship.
What had become apparent to us over the past months is that since we now have resolution to the fraud crisis that overshadowed our ministry for the past two years and since we have clarity that without dedicated pastoral oversight the Adult Discipleship ministries will plateau and will not be able to deepen and broaden their reach, we need to call another pastor who can give himself to the oversight and nurture of these vital avenues of ministry. We are not near the capacity and fruitfulness we pray for, plan for, and eagerly anticipate. We have sought to address that need from within the current pastoral team by approving Ethan’s transition from Pastor for Students and Families to Pastor of Congregational Life and Discipleship.
Of course, having Ethan shift his focus and job title to Pastor of Congregational Life and Discipleship means that we will need to launch an immediate search for a capable Pastor for Students and Families to fill the gap that this change produces. The Session is already assembling a Search Team to identify and call a new Pastor for Students and Families. In fact, we have even had very promising conversations with some great potential candidates who have expressed interest in joining our pastoral team.
The Session fully realizes that this is a significant change in the life and ministry of Hope Church. We do not enter into these decisions without careful consideration or an earnest desire to serve the interests of Christ and his Church as best we possibly can. Of course, we invite and welcome your questions, concerns, and prayers as we lead Hope Church forward in this specific plan. We have set aside Sunday morning, June 2nd, during the Sunday School hour to talk through this plan and pray together.
Here are the details of that gathering, and please do join us:
Meet in the Adult Sunday School room
Food and drink provided
Nursery available (up to 2 years)
Grace and peace,
