Dear Hope Family,
Like most institutions in our times, Hope Church has several statements that put into words what we consider to be our vision, mission, and values. Such words can be very helpful to focus our ministry – our stewardship of resources, energy, and time. Such words can also remain inert and cold – merely printed statements on the back of the bulletin or taglines for the church sign that hold little meaning or power in our life together. Such words also need to be remembered and treasured afresh as we weather changes as a congregation and welcome new members into our family.
Over the course of the next five Sundays, we are setting aside time to remember and renew our mission, vision, and values as a church. The series of sermons is entitled, “The Heartbeat of Hope”. The focus will be mining the Scriptures to recapture our core convictions as a church and the pathways for those convictions to come to vital expression in ministry and life together. Our driving conviction is that the Gospel (all Jesus has done and is doing) gives true hope for real life. The pathways for that conviction to come to vital expression in ministry and life together are receiving the embrace of the Father, being equipped as a disciples of the Son, and engaging the world by the power of the Spirit. In short: Embrace – Equip – Engage.
Week by week, the preaching series will unpack and apply these broad pathways of ministry and life together so that we can, as a body, put our finger on the pulse of God’s grace at work in and through us. Our aim is twofold: to describe who we are as a church by God’s grace and to prescribe who we aspire to become by God’s grace.
This Sunday I am excited to re-discover along with you all that the “good news of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom” truly is good news!
Grace and peace,
