John Spainhour
John is a life-long resident here in beautiful Winston-Salem. He is joyfully married to Sue, going on 14 wonderful years and counting. They have three children (two sons and a daughter), three grandchildren, and a faithful dog, “Chopper.” John is retired from a 30-year career from the City of Winston-Salem and is now pursuing a second career in ministry. He is currently finishing up his masters in Community Chaplaincy and Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University. John feels led and inspired to serve and shepherd those who struggle with addiction, as well as helping individuals lead a healthy and meaningful life through our Savior Jesus Christ.
Sue and John became members at Hope Presbyterian Church in 2012. Both feel they have had wonderful opportunities to grow their faith through the rich community as part of Hope church family. John currently humbly serves as a member of the Diaconate and leads the Prayer team on Monday evenings.. It has been a gift to serve with this great group of deacons as they grow in fellowship and walk side by side together. John has also enjoyed serving with the prayer team. John feels strongly that prayer is a lifestyle and the passport to peace. “Prayer is the voice of faith directed Godward,” says Billy Graham. When John isn’t serving at Hope, for Marked Men for Christ, or as a volunteer chaplain at the YMCA, he enjoys spending time in the mountains, motorcycles, golfing, fishing, playing guitar, and riding his new tractor. John looks forward to embracing, equipping, and engaging as we navigate the future together.
